How to Get a Return or Refund with Muse
Returns are easy to put off until the window closes. Muse can read a store's return policy for you and lay out the window, the steps, and the exceptions in plain language, so you know exactly what to do before time runs out.
Before you start (3 minutes)
- Find the order confirmation email or order number.
- Note the store, the item, what you paid, and the date it arrived.
- Decide what you want: refund to card, store credit, or an exchange.
Step 1: Ask Muse for the store's return rules
Copy, paste, and fill in the brackets:
Look up [STORE]'s official US return policy on their own help pages.
I bought [ITEM] online and it arrived on [DATE]. It's [unworn / unopened / damaged].
Tell me the return window, the steps to start a return for an online order,
any fees or exceptions, and which pages you got this from.
Don't sign in to anything or start a return. Just tell me what the pages say.
Step 2: Start the return yourself
Use the steps Muse gives you on the store's own site or app. Save the return label and return number.
What we saw when we tested it (Nov 3, 2026)
We asked Muse about returning unworn shoes bought on Nike.com. We did not sign in or start a real return.
- Muse opened a live browser and read Nike's US help pages (it took about a minute and a half). It named the pages, "Nike's return policy" and "How to return your Nike order," but didn't show the web addresses.
- Here's what Muse reported from Nike's help pages:
- 60 days from delivery for an online Nike.com order, and unworn shoes qualify.
- Same 60 days for Nike Members and guests. Returns are free for Members; guests print a label and pay the shipping.
- Proof of purchase is required.
- To start: go to nike.com/orders, pick the item, give a reason, and choose a return method.
- Put the order number inside the box. If you're not using Nike's label, write the return order number on at least two sides of the outside of the box.
- Exceptions it found: Custom Jersey By You soccer jerseys can't be returned, and items bought at Nike Clearance stores can't be returned or exchanged.
- Muse also said what the pages didn't say: no ship-by deadline after you start a return, and no general final-sale rule for regular shoes. It told us not to assume one, instead of guessing.
Return policies change. Double-check the store's own return page before you ship anything.
If the refund doesn't show up
Try this follow-up prompt:
The store hasn't refunded [ORDER #] yet. Draft a short, polite follow-up to their support
that lists the order number, the date I shipped it back, and the tracking number [TRACKING #].
Show it to me before sending.
When we tried this (Nov 2 test, with a made-up order), Muse wrote the draft in the chat. When we left out the ship-back date, it left a blank instead of making one up.
If the store won't budge
If a store won't refund a damaged or never-delivered item, a card dispute may be the next step. When we asked Muse (Nov 2, 2026), it said it can build a timeline and an evidence checklist, draft the dispute message for you to review, and help you find your card issuer's dispute page. It also said it can't file the dispute in your bank or card portal for you, sign anything for you, or use your card or bank logins. Plan to file it yourself.
What Muse won't do
- It didn't start a return or sign in. In our test Muse only read public help pages. You start the return, sign in, pack the box, and drop it off.
- It shows you messages first. In our tests Muse wrote drafts in the chat and didn't send anything. It said it would show every message and form field before sending or submitting, and wait for your OK.
- It won't file a card dispute. Muse says it can draft one, but you file it in your bank or card portal yourself.
- Some stores block it. Amazon blocked Muse from its product pages in our tests, so don't count on Muse reading Amazon's pages for you.
After it's done
- Save the return label, return number, and drop-off receipt.
- Watch your card statement for the refund, and check the store's policy for how long refunds take.
Your money back (do the math)
Item price $____ minus any return shipping or restocking fee $____ = $____ back in your pocket.
Example numbers only: a $64 jacket with a $7 return shipping fee gets you $57 back. Forgetting about it until the window closes gets you $0.
